Verona (demo)

After the party empties, she is kept like something precious and handled like something owned. Belonging to him is worn as a badge and a bruise at once, and she names the place, her body as Verona, the doomed lovers’ city, a description she keeps coming up empty trying to finish.

His blasphemy and her faith meet in bed. Praying is useless, he told her once, and yet she sees Jesus in his eyes at the least holy moment. Being called home by him is the only love she has known, and the name of the city stretches out until it is all that is left of the song.
