The Epitaph

It opens on the Sunday school promise repeated like a lullaby, God loves you, and spends the rest of the song dismantling it. It sings from the outcast’s mouth, a tired pariah used up by holiness, the epitome of sodom and abuse by the church’s own ledger.

It bargains like a devil at the cross, once they crucify your son, I will be in control, and the refusal completes itself, they will forget your name and call me God. At the very end the lullaby snaps. God does not love you anymore.
